Dankzij de vele internationale beurzen zoals het Filmfestival, de Midem en de Mipim is de stad uitgegroeid tot ‘the place to be’ for alles wat hot, hip en happening is. In het oude gedeelte, de Suquet, vind je de gezellige markt waar je dagelijks verse bloemen kan kopen en heerlijke oesters; vaste prijs 10 oesters voor acht euro. Serieus winkelen kan je ook in Cannes; de Rue d’Antibes is de winkelstraat waar ieder topmerk een winkel heeft. Hier zie je regelmatig limousines stoppen waarna een rijke oliesjeik met zijn harem voor een half miljoen aan kleding en schoenen inslaat. Van dit soort klanten moeten de lokale ondernemers het hebben maar in de koudste maand van het jaar, januari, gooit men de collectie van het voorgaande jaar de deur uit tegen stuntprijzen. Op dat moment is het tijd voor ons; ‘de gewoone mensch’ om te gaan shoppen. Kortingen tot wel 70% op de meest geweldige items.
